Benchmark Gets Their Team Excited with Office Space-Themed Shoot

Video Objectives

  • Generate employee buy-in for future video projects

  • Team building activity for dispersed employees

Based out of Raleigh, Benchmark Tool & Supply hosts a quarterly meeting that brings together their employees from their five service centers across North Carolina and Virginia. And at this meeting, after they dealt with the business of the day, they wanted to offer a little something extra.

Previously, Benchmark had commissioned a series of video customer testimonials that would involve many of their employees in the on-location interviews, sharing their own insights alongside their happy customers. So the marketing team wanted to break the ice on that ongoing testimonial series in a way that familiarized employees with the production process.

But instead of an uninspiring presentation on what a film shoot looks like, they took a wild idea for a different video and turned it into a team-building opportunity that got everyone excited about the future projects.

It's not always easy for people to be in front of a camera, so we aimed to create a production experience that was not only fun to participate in, but also demonstrated the process from brainstorming the idea to filming on location.

And with the delightful final cut (above) in hand, all those involved can see what is possible after a day of shooting.

On top of that, Benchmark got a chance to bring their employees together to actively build - and create a memento of - their unique company culture. Though video is often thought of as a customer-facing project that is all about meeting marketing goals, it can also be a powerful tool for employee engagement (and recruitment).

And after this shoot, the “stars” of the production have stronger connections to each other and to Benchmark, which can’t help but be felt in their work with their clients.

Project Highlights

Video Format: Employee Engagement

Production Features: On-location shoot, advanced post-production

  • Not just for non-business purposes anymore - we opted to use deepfake technology to elevate Benchmark’s idea of an Office Space-themed video and incorporate their marketing manager who wasn’t able to participate that day.

  • Benchmark employees were so into the shoot that the camera didn’t exist for them, which is the level of comfort we aim for on-set. (And we took care of the smashed printer clean up.)
