Raleigh Sports Teams Hype Fans and Draw Crowds with Event Videos

Video Objectives

  • Document the sporting event from multiple perspectives to showcase the whole story

  • Engage existing fans and attract new audiences through event video reels

Whatever the sport, the event is much more than what’s happening on the field – or court, or arena, or rink, or racing lanes. Yes, sports events are about the exceptional skill and athleticism everyone came to watch. But they are also about being in the crowd, taking in the never-to-be-repeated moments shared by athletes and fans alike.

So when we went out to film the events of Raleigh’s top sports teams, we aimed to capture that whole-event experience and create video that brings the highlights - from the sidelines to the stands - to life.

To get the footage that really showcases the skill of the athletes, the suspense of competition, and the excitement of spectatorship, we put our cameras at the right place at the right time. And though that involves a small amount of luck, it really relied on solid pre-production planning.

Before each event, we outlined a process and key shot list that maximized the opportunities to capture unique moments from a compelling perspective. As we shot the events, we also used multiple tools and formats - drones, photography, and video - so the event was documented from multiple vantages.

With all the action-packed footage, we then crafted hype reels of game day highlights and our favorite shots, video recaps of the event, and b-roll reels showcasing Raleigh as a sports fan destination. These made for effective broadcast and digital ads and engaging website videos that stoke the passion of fans and draw new spectators to events.

No matter the sport, getting fans in the seats is the goal – and video that shows its audiences the genuine thrill of being in those seats is what makes that happen.

Project Highlights

Video Format: Event

Production Features: B-roll capture, drone footage, unscripted shoot

  • At each event we used a small, versatile two-person crew. They start by documenting each event with scene-setting drone shots of the location, then move into the crowd to capture footage of fans, and then record the heart of the action - the athletes, teams, and goals.

  • We used a set of equipment that helped us best record action-packed events: a Canon 1DX Markiii professional photo camera with the fastest shutter on the market and ability to film 120 frames per second—so we can slow down the footage and really show the action. In addition to the traditional DSLR camera, we also bring a Canon C200 Markii cinema camera that’s light enough to pair with our easy rig for high energy crowd shots.

  • When it was time to edit the hours of footage, we first made a “selects reel” of the best shots so our client had short clips they could use immediately while also building an archive of sport events they could use for future video content.
