Hybrid Animation Video Showcases the Projects, Tech, and Brand of Raleigh’s GSC Surveying

Raleigh-based GSC Surveying offers a wide range of services across North Carolina and Virginia - from build design to construction surveys - using the latest advanced technologies. So when they began to overhaul their website, they realized that it was a great opportunity to create brand videos that really showcased all they do. 

As they began the video process, they weren't sure precisely what they wanted, but they knew the videos should overview their services, match their sharp website redesign, and capture their unique, high-tech approach to construction surveying. 

In order to create the videos that would exceed these expectations and bring GSC’s brand to life, we aimed to depict what they do best using the advantages of hybrid animation.

For the video project, motion graphics and 3D animation were crucial for completing the visuals and elevating the messaging in three key ways: 

Because one of GSC’s main differentiators is their application of cutting-edge technology, it was important to show off that service feature. We used animation throughout the video to both identify and adequately visualize the capabilities of this exciting advanced technology - which can be challenging to do for live-action video alone. 

As contractors brought on to support the lead firms, GSC is not always able to specify which projects they’ve worked on; though they can describe the type of solutions they provided. The video’s map animation helped to generalize a representation of these case studies across the region in a way that was still visually interesting and complemented the voice-over. 

And finally, leveraging hybrid animation for its planning and visualization capabilities was an on-point storytelling device for a business that itself relies on graphics and 3d modeling for those same reasons. Animation was an ideal way to capture and mirror the GSC brand.

  • The drone capture in the video reflected and highlighted GSC’s use of drones for surveying, and it helped to portray striking hybrid animation before & after shots.

  • To reinforce GSC’s brand throughout the animations, we used construction-themed visuals, such as the opening shot with motion graphics designed in the style of a blueprint.

  • In order to accommodate their very busy schedule that had little time for a full video shoot, we spent two days just shadowing and recording GSC team members, using drones and cameras to capture how they worked and used their tech first-hand.
