DRA Visualizes Data Over Raleigh Cityscape in Infographic Video
Video Objectives
Sustain momentum of hybrid virtual/live event during transitions using key statistics
Anchor the content of State of Downtown Raleigh Report website
The Downtown Raleigh Alliance's (DRA) annual State of Downtown Raleigh report and event is a critical initiative in their mission of advancing the vitality of Downtown Raleigh for everyone. Investors and community members alike look to this yearly snapshot to guide them as they continue to grow and shape this vital district of Raleigh.
So for 2021's event, held both in-person and virtually, the DRA wanted video content that not only helped fill out the programming for a seamlessly-produced event that never skipped a beat, but also a video that brought to life the important statistics of the State of Downtown Raleigh report.
And, as a non-profit organization dedicated to resourcefully managing their funds, the DRA also wanted to repurpose the video content on their website. There, it would capture a wider audience’s attention and draw them into the larger, 92-page report.
To create a video that met these objectives and creatively used the report’s rich data, we aimed to put a new spin on the infographic and deliver a workhorse of a video that is fun to watch in whatever context it is used.
With the DRA's statistics in hand, we gathered sweeping drone shots of Raleigh’s diverse cityscape, on-the-street-style b-roll and timelapses and then got to work editing. We paired motion graphic animation with the most striking and relevant live action footage to visually amplify the stats.
The resulting animated infographic montage, or inforeel, provided captivating, educational video transitions for the State of Downtown event and now acts as the anchor and focal point of the report’s website–until it's time for the next year’s snapshot of downtown Raleigh.
Project Highlights
Video Format: Brand, inforeel
Production Features: Motion graphics, drone footage, 3D animation
We drew from our archive of Raleigh footage and also went out to film targeted b-roll footage to collect shots that would complement the information presented in the animations developed in After Effects.
In order to make the statistics the most prominent feature in the frame and easy to read, we made the shots longer and the imagery more subdued, while using simple animations of lines and colors to draw the viewer’s eye to the stat.
We developed the motion graphic animation to reflect DRA’s brand style, so the video looks at home on the website and connects to the others produced for the event for end-to-end brand fidelity and style unity.
