A Little Motion Graphics Makes a Big Impact at Blue Cross NC’s Tech Summit Event

When it comes to their annual Tech Summit at the Raleigh Convention Center, BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina knows that the difference is in the details.
And as they pulled together the final touches for the one-day event of industry leader talks and multimedia presentations, they needed help with one of those impactful details.
They needed a set of on-brand motion graphics to stitch into the event’s presentations to introduce speakers and topics and transition among them–creating a cohesive and seamless visual experience for their audience of IT professionals.
To help them create that experience, we aimed to add dimension to the presentations with ten-second animations that played off and interacted with the stage design. With these motion graphics, we wanted to turn the stage into a visually engaging space that went beyond the 2D surface of the huge projector screens.
Altogether we created 20 animations for speaker introductions and transitions, as well as the event’s main logo animation. We also put together slides using the same design that showcased the event’s sponsors.
These animated assets did the very practical work of helping the event’s AV team avoid dead air on the big screens. They always had an asset to cut to or loop if a speaker took too long to get to the stage or if there was extra, unanticipated time between presentations.
Additionally, the sum of the event’s dynamic visuals helped to transform the atmosphere of your average convention center into one that inspires innovation.
For our part, this may not have been the biggest video project we’ve taken on with BlueCross NC, but their attention to detail and these small animated assets went a long way to elevate their audience’s experience.

The event’s branding design and its theme of “Building together” brought to mind the classic video game Tetris - so we rooted our motion graphics in that iconic imagery, animating the vector graphics and typography to fall into place and build on one another until the speaker, topic, and event logo are all revealed, and then swiftly disassembled to “fade to” a white final frame.
The process of collaborating with Blue Cross NC to finalize the animations was relatively speedy for the number of assets produced. With the event’s brand style guide in hand, we created an initial animation example, quickly iterated based on their feedback, got the final style approved, and then created the rest of the animations in a batch.
We were also able to use key parts of the motion graphics in a video recapping the event that BlueCross NC also commissioned. This allowed us to give them more bang for their buck and a visual style that’s spot-on across all of the event’s video assets.
